A good start superstition

I've got a superstition. That the first step can define the entire journey...or the first of anything can color all that is too follow. And it seems, in looking into superstitions, that they are often if not always about what has not yet happened. The big, looming, and most certainly unknown future. This it seems has been the field of superstition, when people are small and the forces at work are large. I wonder what the sailors did when they first sailed out of the sight of land... Superstitions seem to present themselves when the stakes are high. There is a strong association between superstition and risk.
